New from insigne: Youngblood

Youngblood is a non-connected formal script with tall, sweeping ascenders and two alternates. These alternate forms can be mixed and matched for a custom look, and Youngblood is stronger in weight and is better suited for display work than most script fonts. Although Youngblood looks back to traditional copperplate scripts for inspiration, there is a new and exciting spirit to the design. More… Youngblood includes OpenType ending swashes, ornaments, ligatures, discretionary ligatures for most common ascender pairs and old style figures.

New from insigne: Biscuit Boodle

Biscuit Boodle is a fun and uplifting script from Portland Studios Illustrator Justin Gerard. The characters are brush drawn with a slight texture. The font comes packed with OpenType alternates and ligatures. Included are small caps, old style figures, titling alternates and ending swashes. Sixty-four optional ligatures add a slapdash quality to your copy and make sure that no two letters in a word are alike, and auto replacing word ligatures add to the fun. The Biscuit Boodle family also includes an even more spontaneous alternate for even more creative options.

Aviano Updated

The popular Aviano family has been updated to include two new weights, and the entire family has been completely overhauled with letterform tweaks, new kerning and new OpenType features.

Aviano is an extended titling face with influence from the power and timeless beauty of classical letterforms. Aviano features extended characters for a formal feel, sharp, powerful looking serifs and geometric and consistent letterforms. Use Aviano as an alternative to Trajan. Aviano includes a number of advanced OpenType features including alternates, 40 unique ligatures and old style figures. The Aviano family was updated in 2008 to include a light and black weight. Be sure to check out the rest of the Aviano series, including Aviano Serif, Aviano Sans and Aviano Slab. Aviano is named for a small town at the base of the Alps in northern Italy

New from insigne: Sommet Rounded

The Sommet series has been updated with a rounded variant. Sommet Rounded retains its predecessor's high-tech web 2.0 character but features blunted terminators, making for a much warmer and friendlier impression. Sommet Rounded features a tall x-height, and its letterforms are compressed, perfect for when layout space is at a premium. Sommet Rounded can be easily mixed and matched with its non-rounded relative. Sommet Rounded includes four weights and italics for plenty of design options and is suitable for body copy and display text.

New from insigne: Newcomen

Newcomen is a highly versatile titling face that includes 87 OpenType alternates and 38 ligatures. Newcomen titling, in its default form, evokes the Victorian era and is named for the British inventor of a steam engine for pumping water. Newcomen’s flexibility is remarkable; the family includes four weights, and OpenType style sets are included that can alter the appearance of the face to either appear more dark and gothic, classical, include dots in the counters, and swash and "boxy" sets. Individual characters can also be selected and mixed and matched in OpenType capable applications for distinctive custom designs. Please see the .pdf samples to see these features in action and to refer to the proper style sets. A few design ideas are to use the gothic alternates for Halloween, the dots for a steampunk appearance, or the traditional alternates for a unique classical look.

New from insigne: Mahalia

Mahalia draws inspiration from vintage hand-lettering, but adds a modern, European twist. Strongly slanted at a 25 degree angle, Mahalia draws immediate interest, but is still graceful. Mahalia includes many useful OpenType features, including a set of non-connecting and titling alternates, ligatures and end swashes.

Choose Xalapa when you need to evoke the spicy flavors of Mexico.

New from insigne: Dienstag

Dienstag is an extended sans-serif and a new companion to insigne’s popular Montag family. Dienstag is a bit more formal than its predecessor as it lacks Montag’s rounded terminators. Montag and Dienstag both share the same metrics and the two can be swapped without necessitating layout changes. Dienstag includes four different weights and simplified versions of many characters for titling or when a more unique look is needed.

New from insigne: Aviano Serif

Insigne’s popular Aviano series returns with Aviano Serif. Aviano Serif is perfect for mastheads, headlines and powerful logotypes. The Aviano Serif family includes four weights for a wide array of design possibilities. All weights feature 40 OpenType ligatures, old styles figures, 28 alternate characters and 10 eagle ornaments for unique, custom designs.

Frutiger Serif

I saw over on Type For You that Linotype is releasing Frutiger Serif, a update of Meridien. I've always been a fan of Frutiger's work, and considered Meridien one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite, serif typeface. It seems to be rarely used here in the states, which makes it somewhat exotic. It's a underused jewel. Check it out. The page includes some interesting background information.

New from insigne: Kasuga

Kasuga, Japanese for spring day, is a contemporary script with eastern influence. Kasuga’s pointed and fluid brush strokes evoke the orient with just a hint of the west. Kasuga is perfect for designs that need an Asian atmosphere.

Project a powerful image with Sommet. Sommet is a sans-serif with a high-tech web 2.0 feel. The typeface family is a powerful and sharp design that is highly legible onscreen even at small sizes.
